Fox McCloud is, as of November 2014, one of 51 fighters competing in Super Smash Bros., a fighting competition in which famous video game characters (mostly under contract to Nintendo) duke it out.

BiographyEdit

Fox McCloud's father, James McCloud, was the founder of the original Star Fox team. James was born in Birmingham, Alabama, coming from a long line of racist foxes - Br'er Fox is actually a distant ancestor of James and Fox McCloud.

Sometime in the 1970s, James McCloud volunteered for a space program, and while the results aren't completely known, he and his wife, then pregnant with Fox, left the Milky Way and entered the Lylat System, before inter-system travel became really feasible. Some time after Fox was born, James met up with Peppy Hare and Pigma Dengar, forming a vigilante team named Star Fox, which would defend the Lylat System from any threat.

When Andross looked for revenge one day, Star Fox went up against him. Pigma betrayed the team, James was supposedly killed, and Peppy barely escaped, now tasked with telling the teenaged Fox the fate of his father.

A few years later, a now-adult Fox and Peppy recruited Falco Lombardi and Slippy Hare into a new version of the Star Fox team, and this team was successful in defeating Andross. As Venom exploded, James supposedly showed Fox the way out, but it was not known for sure whether it was really James or his ghost.

By the time Fox went on his next adventure, Falco left Star Fox and Peppy was in more of an advisory role due to his advanced age. Fox saved the planet Sauria and a visitor to the planet, Krystal, from the SharpClaw army led by General Scales, near the end of which Falco rejoined Star Fox.

Krystal joined Star Fox, and with help from Star Wolf, formerly allied with Andross, defeated the Aparoids once they became a threat to the Lylat System.

Krystal has been invited to join the Smash competition several times. For Brawl, she declined, but this time she is considering it, knowing the fans are really wanting her in, especially since she is Fox's love interest; several other Smashers have love interests in the competition.

PersonalityEdit

Owing to his family history, Fox for his entire life until 2007, was hostile towards African-Americans, which proved problematic as Donkey Kong has been part of Smash from the beginning. Fox would often insult DK with racial slurs, much to the consternation of the other Smashers, especially Peach. Captain Falcon was the same way. Falco, despite being Fox's best friend, also did not condone this behavior. He was often called "Br'er Fox McCloud" as a result.

This all changed in 2007. Fox watched the South Park episode "With Apologies to Jesse Jackson", which explored how African-Americans responded to racial slurs, specifically the "N-Word". Fox and Falcon changed their ways and did not attack DK's ethnicity any more, even teaming up with the Kongs (Diddy Kong became a Smasher in 2008) in the Subspace Emissary. Both also supported Barack Obama for President of the US in 2008 and 2012.

Fox, like most Smashers, is not without his vices. For a good part of 2010, Fox developed an addiction to cocaine, which proved to be very destructive, and jeopardizing not only his friendships (especially with Falco), but his status as a Smasher. In December 2010, Fox checked into rehab and was absent from Smash for several months, he is now free of his addiction to cocaine.

Fox has a soft spot for Pokemon based on small and medium-sized mammals, like Vulpix and Eevee, which are also foxes.

RelationshipsEdit

Donkey KongEdit

As mentioned earlier, Fox antagonized DK for years for being African-American, but this is no longer the case.

Falco LombardiEdit

Falco is Fox's best friend and a fellow Smasher and member of Star Fox. The two have known each other since the formation of the second Star Fox team. Their friendship has survived many challenges, through thick and thin. Falco is also Fox's second-in-command.

Bill GreyEdit

Bill Grey is one of Fox's friends from before the Lylat Wars. They were good friends since childhood, and Bill assisted Star Fox on the planet Fichina.

Wolf O'DonnellEdit

Wolf O'Donnell is Fox's main rival, and the leader of Star Wolf. This team fought for Andross during the Lylat Wars, and had another battle with Star Fox during the Aparoid invasion. Later on, Star Wolf assists Star Fox in defeating the Aparoid Queen.

Wolf was a Smasher from 2008-2014, and put all the other Smashers in danger of running into trouble with the Intergalactic Police in the process, as they could be charged with harboring a fugitive, since Wolf was wanted for numerous crimes at the time. Wolf left in 2014 and turned himself in, but lied about what he had been doing the past six years.
